Maureen Matthes, a West Los Angeles based singer/songwriter, creates music with strong melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Written on piano, Maureen’s songs evoke depth and emotion.
Born in Nebraska, Maureen was a military child, living in Texas, New Mexico, Washington State, and Japan. Returning to the US to Colorado, Maureen credits her Wolfman Jack/AM radio years and her vinyl with developing her early musical influences from The Rolling Stones to Aretha Franklin, The Beatles and more. Singing and playing piano from childhood on, Maureen began writing songs, at the age of 15, in Merced, CA.
Maureen’s artistic life can be described in several chapters. Early band years, writing and recording with working and original bands in Santa Barbara, Sonoma County, and Los Angeles. Crystal Sound Studies was a seminole influence. Segway to her dance education career, while raising her son, Ryan. Then, coming full circle to recording her newest songs in Los Angeles and Memphis with an EP coming Spring 2020.
